The 4th Degree is the highest degree of advancement in the Knights of Columbus. It is organized into units known as assemblies. These assemblies operate separately from the councils.

Councils are made up of knights who’s level of advancement can range from the 1st to the 4th degree. An assembly is populated by 4th degree members only.

Mary Star of the Sea draws it’s membership from both council #7246 in Newport and from council #9529 in Lincoln City.

The 4th is considered the Patriotic Degree. These are the knights you see dressed in tuxedos and wearing capes, swords and chapeaus. They handle the ceremonial functions of the order.

4th Degree Knights often act as honor guards for visiting dignitaries such as Bishops, Cardinals and even the Pope. They also participate in funerals, weddings and other ceremonial events.

They march in parades and traditionally give out Rosaries to 1st Communicants and people who are entering the Church as adults.

While there is often overlap between the councils and the assemblies, each has it’s own officers and meetings. The current officers for the Mary Star of the Sea Assembly are as follows.
