"The Accidental Environmentalist" - Jim Adler
4:00 PM • August 1, 2010 Admission $5 suggested donation
Yachats Commons
Presented by Friends of the Yachats Commons/Academy of Arts & Sciences
JIM ADLER, a long time Yachats River Valley resident, will discuss his transformation from a "contented hermit to a fixated environmentalist". Info: 541-547-4713

Jim has been involved in a 10 year project that has been monitoring the Yachats River and collecting critical data regarding the health of the river. This 10 year history, unusual for most Oregon rivers, gives a base line to check if there are any major changes in the river's condition.

JIM is a metal sculptor. His Whale Tail sculpture still stands in the
Park at Hwy. 101 and Prospect St. His Smelt statue at Smelt Sands
Beach oxidized as planned and has been removed. A new sculpture is in
the works for another location.

JIM does does a weekly taping of  local news articles in our weekly
papers. This is a program of "Local News on Tape". These tapes are
distributed to individuals that are blind or have difficulty in reading.

Jim served on the Lincoln County Planning Commission and currently
serves on the Lincoln Land Legacy Advisory Committee.
