In 1995, the Lincoln County Historical Society recieved a three-ton donation....
A 1931 Model A Ford dual-wheel truck.
It is the largest donation the Society has recieved to date, with
the exception of the Bank of Newport's gift, the Burrows House in 1976. It is believed this truck has at least 20 years of service in Lincoln County, possibly in the Waldport area. Prior to its arrival in Lincoln County, it saw service in Southern Oregon. The Society would like to hear from
anyone with knowledge of its past. This vehicle, equipped with its original four-cylinder engine and mechanical brakes, is in working order, but it is in need of restoration work and construction of a flat bed. Once restoration work has been completed, this truck, dubbed "The History Hauler," by museum Curator Steve Wyatt, will become a familiar sight in Newport. The Society plans to use the truck in parades and appearances at schools and other civic functions.
If you love working on old trucks, or would like to contribute to its restoration, the Society would love to hear from you. It is seeking donations of time, materials, and know-how for this big rig. For additional information, please contact Steve Wyatt, curator of the Lincoln County Historical Society, 545 S.W. Ninth Street, Newport, Oregon 97365.
